New Year, New Users, New Educational Blog Series

The new year arrived on the heels of Multi-Collateral Dai, which has attracted many new people from around the world to Maker. To help these new users learn all about crypto, blockchain tech, Dai, and everything the Maker Protocol has to offer, we began a 6-part “Welcome to Crypto” series on Jan. 28. The full series will cover everything from the advantages of digital assets and how to buy crypto to how to read cryptocurrency price charts, and why they matter. Dig into part one now: The Benefits of Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology.

Explore Apps and Services Using Dai

On Jan. 9, we unveiled a new Ecosystem page on MakerDAO.com. The page, which will be updated frequently, contains links to all of the dapps designed by Maker, as well as links to the many Dai-integrated projects created by the Maker community.

OasisDEX Contract Update

Attention teams that have connected their apps to OasisDEX contracts (e.g., Kyber, 1inch.echange, Dex.AG, bZx, CDPSaver, and Argent): A new contract will be deployed on February 4, and the old contract will expire. A timeline of the upgrade is provided at the link above.

Another Milestone Reached

On Jan. 17, we hit another milestone on DefiPulse: 50M Dai locked into DeFi! And it’s only the beginning.

Maker Protocol Technical Documentation

Everything—everything— you need to know about the upgraded Maker Protocol now exists in (highly technical) documentation. A more reader-friendly MCD white paper is scheduled for release in early Feb.

Developer Guides

MakerDAO’s Developer Guides help anyone integrate with Maker’s smart contracts, SDKs, APIs, products, and partners. Bookmark the guides and review them anytime.

Governance Updates

A series of Governance Polls and Executive Votes this month resulted in 8% Stability Fees for both ETH and BAT, and a 7.75% Dai Savings Rate, as of Jan 31, 2020, 11:45 am PT.

Here’s the polling and voting history:

Have You Seen the New Maker Governance Dashboard?

If you’ve ever wondered how many MKR tokens are distributed across the various executive proposals, or how the amount of MKR varies within DS-Chief, the new governance dashboard developed by members of the MakerDAO community provides answers. Integrations

The Dai Savings Rate is now live in the Argent ethereum wallet. Argent’s UI makes it ridiculously simple to earn savings on your Dai.

Community Highlights and Event Recaps

Maker at CES 2020

Representatives from our BizDev, Integrations, and Marketing teams went to Las Vegas, Nevada, early in the month to educate the tech masses on Dai and the Maker Protocol, and man the first-ever Maker booth at CES. Booth visitors got a walkthrough of how to utilize the DSR in OKEx Pool, and were shown how to use Dai as a direct payment method (no conversion to fiat!) in the PundiX POS system.

Maker President and COO Steven Becker was also on hand to speak about blockchain’s technical hurdles as part of the CES Digital Money Forum. As Coindesk correctly noted in its coverage of us (MakerDAO Pitches DeFi to the Masses at CES 2020), “There's a "digital money" section on the show floor of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, but MakerDAO is the only digital money with a booth there.” Snap!

Finally, Coindesk’s Brady Dale stopped by our booth to interview Greg Diprisco, Maker’s Head of Business Development, about our CES demos and latest integration projects.

On Jan. 10, we collaborated with WeWork and PundiX at the WeWork Labs space in London to talk about the future of Dai and the DSR. The event included a demonstration on how to purchase goods with Dai through the PundiX POS system.

Gustav Arentoft, Maker’s Business Development Associate in Europe, speaks at WeWork Labs in London.
Attendees at our London event were able to  purchase t-shirts using Dai via the PundiX POS system.

On Jan. 16, Charles St. Louis, one of Maker’s amazing Technical Consultants, presented an overview of the Maker Ecosystem to the popular DeFi Toronto group at the University of Toronto.

Our own Charles St. Louis explains the Maker Ecosystem to DeFi Toronto group members in Canada.
